Li esta reflexão num excelente artigo de Matthew Reisz no Times Higher Education sobre a ideia da universidade. Muito no contexto britânico, claro, mas com tempo para passar em revista os conceitos de Universidade de Newman (The idea of a University) e de Humboldt, e ainda elencar outros menos, digamos, ortodoxos, como o citado acima ou este outro de um vice-reitor da Birmingham City University:
higher education (...) consists, he suggests, of courses that are "difficult, stimulating, challenging and exciting" for students aged 18 and older arriving with two A levels.
